Amex Business Platinum Cuts 35% Rebate on Premium Flights – Major Change Coming

Big news for frequent flyers: American Express has announced a major downgrade to its popular 35% Pay with Points rebate for Business Platinum cardholders. Starting September 18, 2025, the card will no longer offer the 35% rebate on First and Business Class flights unless the ticket is booked with your selected airline.

What’s Changing?

  • 🔻 Before: 35% rebate on all First and Business Class bookings—any airline
  • 🔻 After (Effective 9/18/25): Rebate applies only to your selected airline for all cabin classes

This move significantly limits the value of the rebate for those who frequently fly premium cabins with various carriers.

Workaround?

Some cardholders report being able to switch their selected airline mid-year (usually domestic only), which could help—but it’s not officially supported by Amex.

What’s Next?

Amex has teased a revamp of the Business Platinum card, but early signs point to fewer benefits and a possible annual fee increase.

Stay tuned as we track updates and new redemption strategies.
