Ford Launches New Rewards Credit Card With Up to 16X Points — Here’s Why You Should Probably Skip It
Ford has launched a new Ford Rewards credit card that advertises earning rates of up to 16X points on certain purchases. At first glance, the rewards structure might look impressive. However, once you take a closer look at the actual value of the points, the card becomes far less appealing.
The Advertised Earning Rates
The new card promotes the following rewards:
- 16X points on purchases at Ford dealerships and Ford.com
- 10X points in select categories
- 6X points on common spending like:
- Groceries
- Gas
- Restaurants
- EV charging
- Insurance
- Tolls
- Parking
- 2X points on all other purchases
The card also comes with no annual fee, which is one of its main selling points.
The Real Value Is Much Lower
The big issue with this card is the actual redemption value of the points. Ford points are reportedly worth around 0.5 cents each (half a penny).
When you convert the earning rates into real value, the rewards become much less impressive:
- 16X points ≈ about 8% back
- 10X points ≈ about 5% back
- 6X points ≈ about 3% back
- 2X points ≈ about 1% back
While 8% back at Ford dealerships sounds decent, the reality is that most people don’t spend large amounts regularly at Ford dealerships or on Ford.com.

Very Limited Redemption Options
Another major drawback is how limited the rewards are.
Points can only be redeemed for things like:
- Ford accessories
- Vehicle services
- Ford parts
Based on available information, points cannot be used toward purchasing or leasing a Ford vehicle, which would have made the rewards significantly more useful.
Better Cards Already Exist
For everyday spending like groceries, gas, and dining, there are already many credit cards that offer 3–5% cash back with flexible redemption options. Those rewards can usually be used for cash, travel, statement credits, or gift cards, making them far more valuable.
In comparison, this Ford card locks you into a very narrow ecosystem of rewards.
Bottom Line
The new Ford Rewards Credit Card might look attractive with its advertised 16X earning rate, but once you factor in the 0.5 cent point value and extremely limited redemption options, the card becomes much less compelling.
Unless you spend significant amounts directly with Ford dealerships and services, most people will likely get far better value from a standard cash back or travel rewards credit card instead.
